Head of Group Sustainability Constantia Flexibles International GmbH

What does Sustainable Entrepreneurship mean to you personally?

Making an entrepreneurial decision, which follow the three-pillar-definition of sustainability (social, ecological and economic). It is important at this juncture not only to see the company solely but to have the whole chain of economic value added. Collaboration with preceding and following processes are important keywords to move and improve something.

What do you think, how firmly rooted is Sustainable Entrepreneurship already in people's thinking and, above all, in the actions of entrepreneurs?

Especially in the last years a massive change of thinking was recognizable in society.
In many cases this thinking got internalized, but for some social income groups it is very difficult to gain access to a sustainable lifestyle.
Even in companies you are able to find sustainable technologies in due consideration of energy efficiency and the use of renewable resources.
Seen from entrepreneurial perception there is still a huge amount of catching up to do.
Often a lack of understanding, that Sustainability settles with „Return of Investment“ is the main reason.

Which sectors do you think are doing the most in terms of Sustainable Entrepreneurship, and which have a lot of catching up to?

There are no specific pioneers sectors, mainly single corporate-cultures are living referent powers. Family enterprises are thinking sustainable, even in long-term relations, these companies know about their responsibility for society and nature.

Here it is with us to show that „black and white thinking“ is not enough to find statements about Sustainability.

How would you judge Austria’s position in the development of Sustainable Entrepreneurship?

Austria represents the top class in many areas as well as Austria has attracted worldwide attention.Though Austria sometimes is struggling looking beyond its own nose and to press ahead with innovations.
The often quoted „Austrian solution“ is a good example here
There is a chance to spread the reputation Europe-wide, also in terms of sustainable entrepreneurship. If this is wanted and succeeds is a different question.

The SEA honors projects that are outstanding examples of Sustainable Entrepreneurship. What persuaded you to personally support this idea?

It is quite obvious that not always something has to happen in order hat to things happening.
SEA achieves extraordinary work so as to push ideas to the public and stimulates new ideas on this path. Supporting this Image is only a corollary and a possibility to have a share in sustainable evolution.

In what way can each and every one of us contribute towards increasing the relevance of Sustainable Entrepreneurship?

The critical view on everyday decisions is the base. It starts with the personal consumptions and usage of resources and ends with flow patterns to end a products life the right way.

And lastly, a personal question: Which is the most memorable SE project you've ever heard of - and why?

There is a good number of projects worth to mention (ecological improvements, social workshops, fair business practice).
Individually i am fascinated by companies investing their profit into demands of living conditions for the socially deprived; these companies realized that everything is eventual.
