Dear Reader,

We hope you all started into a great new year and already spent two felicitous and successful months. On the one hand, I am proud to announce that our jury for 2014 got an addition – Lambert van Nistelrooji, Dutch Politician and Member of the European Parliament. On the other hand, I am pleased to tell you, as you have already noticed, submissions for the SEA 2014 are being accepted from now until 30 April 2014. Submissions can be handed in the following 8 categories:

Integration & Social Issues, Climate, the Environment & Energy, Knowledge & Education, Mobility & Technological Innovations, Development & Services, Lifestyle & Culture, Urban & Regional Development, Health & Medicine

The submitted projects will be evaluated in a two stages process. Firstly, submissions go through stage 1.

All positively evaluated submissions go on to stage 2. Secondly, we will send detailed submission documents by e-mail to the positively evaluated projects.

SEA Jury
We would like to warmly welcome our new member to the SEA jury:
Lambert van Nistelrooij, Member of the European Parliament
Van Nistelrooij is Member of the European Parliament since 2004 and he has been focusing on regional policy, research and innovation, energy, and the digital agenda. Currently, he is the rapporteur for the General Regulation on the EU Regional Policy 2014-2020, including the European Structural and Investment Fund (ESIF, 325 billion euro). He is also actively involved with Active and Healthy Aging and and the Digital Agenda.

Dr. Peter Vogel, Serial Entrepreneur and Head of the Competence Center "New Ventures" at the University of St. Gallen
Peter Vogel is an internationally renowned serial entrepreneur, entrepreneurship trainer and scholar. Peter is founding CEO of HR Matching AG, a VC-backed Red Herring Europe winner revolutionizing the recruiting market through technological innovation. He is also founder of The Entrepreneurs’ Ship, an organization fostering entrepreneurship as a viable career option in low- and middle-income countries.

Geoffrey S. Kinsey, Director of Photovoltaic Technologies Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy Systems (CSE)
Geoffrey S. Kinsey has served as Fraunhofer CSE’s Director of Photovoltaic Technologies since June 2012. Dr. Kinsey previously worked as Senior Director of Research and Development at Amonix, Inc., in Seal Beach, CA, where he led a team optimizing operation of Amonix solar power generators using III-V multijunction cells.
